The 2014 PGAMA Sales and Marketing Network Crab Feast surely lived up to its name. Friends and colleagues crowded the pavillion at Kurtz's Beach (See Images HERE) to enjoy the savory outdoor dinner and revelry of the last remnants of the summer. Platters of crabs, salads, barbecue, sausage, vegetables and a delightful assortment of desserts were abundantly shared among friends and fellow industry colleagues.
The Annual Crab Feast is a longstanding tradition and one of PGAMA's most successful events during the year. Thanks to premier sponsor MCS, the 2014 SaMN Crab Feast featured a range of extraordinary door prizes and giveaways including a Chromebook and an Outdoor Edition GoPro Camera.
I am honored that the Board of Directors of the Printing and Graphics Association MidAtlantic has selected me to lead PGAMA. I want to thank them for the opportunity and let you know that my mission, simply stated, is to retain and grow membership by providing more value to our members, enhance our relevance both legislatively and economically in our region and continue to be a resource to you and your business that will help you grow profitably going forward.
In addition, there are a number of potentially exciting ideas and programs that the board and staff of PGAMA have in mind and we will be exploring the viability of instituting them in the coming weeks and months.
I am very excited that after a forty year career of working for some of the iconic printing companies in our region and for some of the most visionary owners as well, that I will now have the opportunity to give back to an industry that has meant so much to me.
Thanks again for all the support and encouragement received since the announcement that I would be taking this position. It is greatly appreciated and I hope to reward your sentiments with results.

Sustainability for the printing sector is often defined in terms of product, process, and envelope. Taken together, these terms provide a useful "road map" of sustainability for a company’s activities, products and services. All of these elements are important when defining sustainable printing operations.
- Product includes the design aspects and input material management to create the product.
- Process includes all manufacturing steps (e.g. prepress, press and postpress) involved with converting raw materials into a finished product including process by-products (e.g. solid wastes, air pollution and wastewater) that have an environmental, health and safety impact.
- Envelope includes all the manufacturing support activities and includes the building, grounds, utilities, employees, and other functions at an individual site.
In the third installment of PGAMA’s Sustainability Spotlight we sat down with Art Simpson, Executive Vice President, Tom Loudon Vice President of Print Operations and Ian Pitcairn, Vice President of Operations at EU Services to talk about the evolution of their commitment to reduce the environmental impact in terms of product, process, and envelope at their Rockville, MD plant.

On January 31, 2014 Clean Currents Green Energy Solutions, headquartered in Silver Spring, MD, announced that they have exited the retail electricity market place. All customers will be transferred back to utility default service effective immediately. With the recent jump in wholesale electric prices due to the extreme weather this winter, Clean Currents was unable to meet contract-pricing obligations in place with existing customers.
The extreme weather has forced utility default rates higher but there are still savings opportunities available with energy suppliers structured to sustain sudden uptakes in the energy markets.
PGAMA partner Metromedia Energy Inc is available to help members identify solutions through their Power Shop pricing program. Please contact Tom Gussen by phone at (732) 440-0031 or by email at email@example.com to discuss your energy supplier options today.
